BREATH SUSPENSION TO BALANCE PRANA

In the yoga tradition, practicing breath suspension is used as a tool to balance the pranic energy (life force) which can improve lung capacity and oxygen utilization, lower the heart rate and reduce anxiety.

Breath for IMPROVED VENTILATION

This practice uses puckered lips which allows you to control oxygenation and ventilation moving air in and out of the lungs. Data from an NIH study indicates a change in the pattern of chest wall muscle recruitment and improved ventilation in COPD.

Breath pattern for improved cognition

A breath practice with eye focus and mudra to influence how the brain analyzes processes your thoughts, experiences,  senses,  perceptions, attention, memory, and how you reason; effectively balancing your personality.

BREATH OF FIRE FOR CREATIVITY

Three simple exercises to spark creativity using breath of fire. (You can double the times if you are familiar with breath of fire.) Creativity is movement from formless to form returning to formless. Breath of fire can be practiced to spark the system into movement.

humming bee breath

Humming Bee breath produces vibrations that help ventilate and drain sinuses, improves voice, increases lymphatic circulation and releases endorphins, relieves cerebral tension, stimulates vagus nerve to calm stress response and awakens increased perception.

Humming Bee Breath (Bharamari Pranayama) is an effective complementary modality in the treatment of chronic sinusitis by improving ventilation and drainage of the sinuses.

three part breathing

Three part breath helps to manage stress, encourages body to relax and improves venous return of blood which reduces the load on heart and enhances circulation. Controlling the breath is a pre-requisite to controlling the mind.

ALTERNATE NOSTRIL BREATH - STAGE THREE

Experience how this breath practice can improve mood, regulate emotions and help you remain alert and focused yet calm and relaxed.

(Practice begins at 3:37)

How does the nervous system affect glandular secretions, vasodilation and brain activity through alternate nostril breathing?

Learn the structure and function of the nasal cavity, turbinates and nasal mucosa and interactions with the nervous system.

EALTERNATE NOSTRIL BREATH - STAGE TWO

This class builds upon Stage One by beginning to 'control' or apply 'restraint' to your breath practice. This is what pranayama means. (Prana Control).  (Practice begins at 3:20)

alternate nostril breath - stage one

This beginner class prepares you for Alternate Nostril Breathing. The purpose of alternate nostril breathing is to balance your autonomic nervous system so you remain alert and focused yet calm and relaxed. For this reason the practice should be done gradually and never forced or hurried.  (Practice begins at 2:10)

activating & purifying breath

These gentle breathing exercises provide practice for beginners to experience activating and purifying the three main energy channels (Nadis) in the subtle body. This should be practiced until you feel comfortable with each exercise for 3 minutes until moving on to Alternate Nostril Breathing. (Exercise begins at 6:24)

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT BARBARA

Starting to Feel Free

Thank you so much, Barb. My session was very thought provoking and I was able to address things I had no idea I was even hanging on to.  I feel like I'm starting to feel that freedom that we talked about.  I don't think I would have been able to come to these realizations without you and I truly thank you with all my heart and being.  I will definitely be seeing you again!  Thank you for sharing  your beautiful gift with me.

I Had to Make Big Life Changes

I was new to yoga when Barb suggested I try a series of classes.  I had some things going on in my life and I knew I needed to make a change so I decided why not.  Not only did I enjoy going through the process but I learned so much about the practice of yoga and what it has to offer besides the poses.  The most amazing part was that I had some breakthroughs in my own life.  I don't know if I would have been able to make these huge lifetime changes  without the yoga classes and meditation.  Thank you so much, Barb, I have a new life!
